Workplace Violence...
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) of the US Department of Labor defines Workplace Violence as: any act or threat of physical violence, harassment, intimidation, or other threatening disruptive behavior that occurs at the work site. It ranges from threats and verbal abuse to physical assaults and even homicide. It can affect and involve employees, clients, customers, and visitors. |
As of 2014, OSHA reported that nearly 2 million American workers report having been victims of workplace violence each year and that many more cases go unreported. In order to curtail the incidences of workplace violence, there needs to be a risk assessment, and the implementation of a plan of action for facilities, businesses, and organizations, that must include all employers and employees from salaried management to hourly shift workers.
In addition to assessment, planning, and implementation, there must be a plan of action for the aftermath of a violent and/or disastrous event.
